The current International Headache Society classification for episodic tension-type headache requires:

1. At least 10 headaches fulfilling criteria B-D, but less than 15 headache days/month
2. Headaches lasting from 30 minutes to 7 days
3. At least two of the following:
1. Pressing/tightly (non-pulsating) quality
2. Mild or moderate activity (i.e. not severe - incapacitating)
3. Bilateral location
4. No aggravation by walking stairs or similar routine physical activity
4. Both of the following:
1. No nausea or vomiting (anorexia allowed)
2. Photophobia (light is uncomfortable) and Phonophobia (noise is uncomfortable) are not both present
