Migraine is a very common disease which presently afflicts an estimated
21.9 million Americans. On the average, men experience 34 migraine attacks
per year, while women experience 34.7 attacks per year. Slightly greater
than half (58%) of these migraine attacks result in 112 million migraine-related
bedridden ”sick-days” per year. It is estimated that the cost
to the national economy is 1.03 billion dollars per year in direct health
cost and 10.7 billion dollars per year indirect cost.
