Since multiple sclerosis can cause any symptoms related to the brain and spinal cord, an exhaustive list of multiple sclerosis symptoms would be everything. There are, however, a list of symptoms that are most common particularly if one looks towards multiple sclerosis early symptoms.

BetterQOL is dedicated to improving the quality of life of patients and their physicians

The most common early symptom is optic neuritis. This is a symptom that presents with sudden change in vision (anything from blurred vision to complete blindness) typically with eye pain. About 30% of all MS patients present with this as their most definitive first symptom. More about optic neuritis is found on this page.

The second most common symptom is numbness but this numbness is typically in a specific pattern. It will either be one side of the body (with or without the face), or it will be a level on the body and below.

Probably the third most common presentation is weakness but again it tends to be either one side of the body or the other. At times, it is in both legs. When one gets weakness in the legs and numbness in a level together, this presentation is known at transverse myelitis.
